Disposable Culture System for Mammalian Cells in Suspension from MIDSCI - TPP

TPP - MIDSCI offers a versatile disposable culture system for high-throughput screening of process parameters and mammalian production cell lines.  The small scale bioreactor for shaker systems, which is manufactured by TPP, has a nominal volume of 50 ml with a culture volume of 1 to 40 ml.

Mimicking standard bioreactor conditions, the system offers efficient gas exchange through a hydrophobic membrane.  Selectable ventilation holes allow regulated gas exchange, and 0.2 mm pores eliminate the risk of contamination. 

The virgin polypropylene tube with polyethylene cap resists up to RCFmax=9,400Xg force.  The gamma-sterilized bioreactor has a graduation ranging from 0.5ml to 50ml.  Dimensions are equivalent to standard 50 ml centrifugation tubes, and configurations are 20 pieces per bag and 180 pieces per box.

bioreactorWhen used as a process optimization tool, the system allows cultures to start in the bioreactor under production conditions.  On the day of interest, cells from the production run are transferred into 50 ml tubes.  Process parameters are then screened in the shaken system under defined conditions for gas transfer.  The best parameters are then verified in a bioreactor.  Advantages of 50 ml tubes include defined ventilation, elimination of the formation of foam at any speed, flexible working volume with one type of tube, fast medium exchange following centrifugation, the use of fed batch approaches, rapid sampling and ability to sacrifice the whole tube.  Each tube is a completely independent vessel.
